Two-time world medalist and 2024 Olympic alternate Joscelyn Roberson shocked the gymnastics community when she announced she had entered the transfer portal on Monday.

The two-time All-American will immediately become the biggest name available in the portal, sporting career-high marks above 9.900 on all four events and an Arkansas freshman record 39.625 in the all-around.

It’s a huge loss for the Razorbacks, who are already slated to lose nearly a dozen routines from this year’s nationals squad. Along with Roberson, Jordyn Wieber’s Arkansas team is losing stars Frankie Price, Morgan Price, Leah Smith, and Cami Weaver to graduation and at least two others to the transfer portal.

Any team that gets Roberson will be getting a tried and true star, but a few schools may have a leg up on recruiting the rising junior.

Georgia GymDogs

A reunion between Roberson and her club coach, Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, is almost too perfect a scenario, and it may just be the route we see Roberson follow.

Roberson spent the majority of her career at North East Texas Elite Gymnastics in Texarkana, Texas, but it wasn’t until she switched to Landi’s World Champions Centre that she truly broke out, making her first world championship team in 2023.

After a few years out of the national spotlight under head coach Courtney Kupets Carter, Georgia is officially back, finishing ranked in the top six for the first time since 2016. Roberson would bring even more star power to a Georgia roster that already contains Lily Smith, CaMarah Williams, and Ady Wahl.

While the GymDogs finished the season ranked in the top 10 on all four events, beam was statistically Georgia’s weakest event. Roberson, who finished the season ranked fifth nationally on the event, could be a perfect match to supercharge Georgia and help them improve on this year’s sixth-place finish.

Though Canqueteau-Landi’s husband – and fellow World Champions Centre coaching alum – Laurent Landi has not been receptive to coaching in college in the past, recent openings on the Georgia coaching roster have raised the possibility of him coming to Athens. If the Landis reunite to coach the GymDogs, Georgia will immediately have the potential to be a hub for any athletes looking to train elite and NCAA gymnastics simultaneously.

Oklahoma Sooners

If Roberson is looking to win a championship, nowhere would be a better choice than Oklahoma. Fresh off the heels of their eighth title – and seventh in a decade – Oklahoma will be taking on the 2027 season looking for its first three-peat in program history after missing out in both 2018 and 2024.

Oklahoma was one of the three schools Roberson visited before committing to Arkansas, so there is already a connection there. Oklahoma is also the closest school to Roberson’s native Texarkana, save for the Razorbacks.

The Sooners are not losing many routines from this year’s championship squad, but Roberson could slide nicely into the lineup holes left by the graduation of NCAA all-around champion Faith Torrez.

K.J. Kindler does not always go after high-profile elite recruits, choosing instead to go for Level 10 athletes who can seamlessly transition into college competition. Roberson has already improved her form through two years in Fayetteville, but Kindler could unlock a whole new level of performance.

LSU Tigers

World Champions Centre has produced NCAA stars for a number of teams, but LSU might be one of the largest benefactors of WCC talent. Next year’s Tiger squad will feature two former WCC athletes: Amari Drayton and Zoe Miller.

A reunion with club teammates could be a big draw for Roberson, especially considering how successful LSU has been in recent years.

LSU head coach Jay Clark has been aggressive in the transfer portal over the last few seasons and has already signed former Georgia GymDog Ariel Posen and former Penn Quaker Skyelar Kerico for the 2027 season.

The Tigers have been incredibly successful in the last couple of regular seasons, but they have failed to get back over the title hump since winning the program’s first back in 2024. Adding another consistent high performer like Roberson could contribute to the Tigers winning another championship.

UCLA Bruins

While Simone Biles may be WCC’s marquee gymnast, the biggest college star the gym has produced is undoubtedly Jordan Chiles, who recently finished up her career at UCLA.

Losing Chiles will be big for the Bruins, but adding her WCC teammate in her place could help to lessen the blow. Roberson would also have the opportunity to reunite with former club teammates Jordis Eichman and Tiana Sumanasekera in Westwood.

Similar to the Sooners, UCLA isn’t losing many routines outside of Chiles, but there will be space at the end of the beam lineup with the departure of Ciena Alipio. Roberson could slot into that spot nicely, providing a consistent 9.900+ score toward the end of the rotation.

Roberson’s repertoire of tumbling skills will also be an immediate match for the Pauley Pavilion floor party. Roberson was already one of the SEC’s top floor workers, but a few months with BJ Das could bring out even more on the performance side.

Michigan Wolverines

If there is a potential wildcard for Roberson’s next school, it is the third program she paid an official visit to in high school before committing to Arkansas: Michigan.

The Wolverines are not quite the team that they were when they won a title in 2021, but Michigan is looking to rise back up the rankings under new head coach Maile’ana Kanewa-Hermelyn. Roberson would be the highest-profile gymnast in Ann Arbor and could be a key figure in the team’s resurgence over the next couple of years.

While there are no WCC alumni at Michigan, if Roberson wanted to throw it way back, she trained alongside rising Wolverine senior Kayli Boozer back at North East Texas Elite. The two Texarkana natives would provide a 1-2 punch for Michigan, particularly on vault and beam.

Roberson was not a consistent vaulter for Arkansas this year after bringing back her much more difficult Mustafina vault, but Michigan has had some of the most dynamic, high-flying vaults of the last few seasons. Two seasons with vault coaches Scott Sherman and Quest Hayden could be just what Roberson needs to reign in her power and refine her vault, both for college and elite competition.
