Simone Biles said “we’ll see” about a return for the 2028 LA Olympics, leaving the door open to what would be her fourth Olympic appearance.

Appearing on The Today Show on Tuesday, the 11-time Olympic medalist was unsurprisingly asked about her competitive future.

”I’m still on the health and wellness journey,” Biles said. “[Her coach] Laurent [Landi] asks me all the time, and if I have to say anything, I’m just like, ‘Give me a little bit more time to recover mentally, physically. But he’s always like, ‘Okay, well, you just give me two years.’ And so I feel like we’re coming up on that mark. We got a little bit more things to do, and then we’ll see.”

For reference, Biles returned to training around September 2022 ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics — just under two years out from the Games.

The two-year mark for the LA Games is this July, so Biles could get back in the gym in the late summer/early fall of 2026 and follow a similar path as last quad. That would likely put her returning to competition in the summer of 2027.

Biles is about to turn 29. By the time LA comes around she would be 31, meaning she would be the oldest American female gymnast to compete at the Olympics in more than 75 years. (She became the oldest in over 70 years at the age of 27 in 2024.)

Biles could also become the first U.S. woman to compete at four Olympic Games, in addition to many other potentially record-breaking feats.

It’s clear Biles is enjoying her hiatus from the sport, supporting her husband — Bears safety Jonathan Owens — traveling the world, and partaking in numerous side quests, like horseback riding and figure skating. But the allure of LA may be too hard to resist.

Perhaps Biles’ swan song will be a historic performance on U.S. soil.
