Simone Biles is still on the fence about a potential fourth Olympic Games, but according to a recent interview with The Associated Press, she is leaning one way.

What that way is? She isn’t letting on quite yet.

“I’m like ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t know what the decision (is) I should make, but I don’t necessarily have to make it just yet,’” Biles said, “But I feel like it’s kind of in the works which way I’m leaning towards.”

Biles, 29, would be 31 if she competes in LA. The most decorated gymnast of all time already has 11 Olympic medals to her name – seven gold – but the lure of a once-in-a-lifetime home Olympics has already brought back all of her 2024 teammates, plus Katelyn Ohashi and potentially other unannounced returns.

“It’s going to be like a big reunion if I did,” Biles said. “It would be so much fun. But I still have to weigh the options.”

Biles mentioned in the interview with AP reporter Will Graves that one factor she has to consider now is the timeline for starting a family with her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens.

“I am getting to the age of 30 where we start to talk about, ‘What does your reproduction cycle … what’s going on in there? What does that look like? How healthy is it?’ And so I think these are major things that are on the table at my age that I have to take in consideration and weigh those options and what that looks like and when we want to start a family.”

But a home Olympics?

“Like, how could you not? It’s absolutely incredible,” Biles said.

Biles has shared some clips recently of her playing around at the gym and on her trampoline at home. She also shared some old training clips on National Gymnastics Day – something she didn’t do last year.

Of getting back in the gym, even if just for fun, Biles told the AP, “I wasn’t as scared as I thought I was going to be. And that scared me more with the decision.”

Ahead of Paris 2024, Biles returned to training about two years out and returned to competition in the summer of 2023. If she followed that timeline for 2028, she would be returning to the gym about now.

Maybe Biles is sharing more gymnastics-related content to build up to a big comeback announcement, or maybe she is laying the groundwork to share her retirement. Either way, the clock is ticking, and the GOAT will have to show her cards sooner rather than later.
