What conference championships mean for the NCAA postseason

Conference championships do not determine NCAA regional placement on their own, but they are the final chance for teams to add one last good score to their National Qualifying Score (NQS) before Selection Monday on March 23.

For bubble teams, this is their last chance to qualify for the tournament in the top 36 and make it to the postseason, or their season ends here.

There’s also a momentum aspect, where a team is looking for a strong performance as it strives to continue rising to peak performance ahead of the tournament.

A certain number of individuals who aren’t part of a tournament-qualifying team will also be selected to compete individually, so for those bubble team gymnasts – and the ones who for sure won’t make it to the tournament – this is their final chance to boost their NQS for selection.
