Katelyn Ohashi is returning to competitive gymnastics.

The 2018 NCAA team and floor champion announced her return to elite gymnastics on Tuesday.

Ohashi last competed elite in 2013, when she beat Simone Biles to win that year’s American Cup. She last competed in the NCAA in 2019.

The 29-year-old, who would be 31 if she made it to the 2028 LA Games, is training at Pacific Reign.

“After a few years of contemplating whether I wanted to continue chasing a dream I had as a little kid, I have decided to go for it. I’m taking it one day at a time; one skill, one event, one dream. I don’t have any regrets in my career and I want to be able to continue saying that no matter what happens. So here goes nothing! Thankful for Pacific Reign for taking a chance on me!”

The timing of Ohashi’s announcement is interesting, as USA Gymnastics is set to announce the final field for this weekend’s American Classic on Wednesday, June 24.

USAG commented on Ohashi’s announcement posting, saying, “see you SO SOON,” leading fans to believe she may be competing.

Ohashi does not need a compulsory score to qualify elite under USAG rules as she has previously competed elite, even if it was 13 years ago. If she is in the American Classic field, she could’ve petitioned into the meet.
