Arkansas head coach Jordyn Wieber is stepping down from her position after seven seasons with the Gymbacks.

“Serving as head coach of Arkansas gymnastics has been an honor,” Wieber said in a release Tuesday. “I’m deeply grateful to our student-athletes, staff, and Razorback fans for an unforgettable journey. With a heavy, but full heart and immense pride in what we have accomplished, I’m stepping away from athletics to focus on my family and other passions. I’m excited for what’s ahead and will forever be cheering on the Razorbacks!”

Assistant coach Chris Brooks, Wieber’s husband, has been promoted to head coach, effective immediately.

Brooks, like his wife, is an Olympian. He has nearly a decade of coaching experience in the NCAA, with stints at Nebraska’s women’s team and Oklahoma’s men’s team, his alma mater, prior to arriving in Fayetteville.

“After learning of Coach Wieber’s desire to step away from athletics, my mind immediately focused on how to keep the program’s momentum moving forward,” Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek said. “Coach Brooks’ passion, energy and coaching knowledge made him an easy choice. His work alongside Coach Wieber has helped turn the Gymbacks into what they are today. I believe Coach Brooks will continue to grow our program moving forward.”

Brooks has been with the Gymbacks since Wieber’s hiring in 2019. He has served as the team’s uneven bars coach and helped with vault. He also coached Joscelyn Roberson to a world bronze medal on vault last fall.

Roberson announced she was entering the transfer portal on Monday after two seasons with the Gymbacks. Wieber was a large reason why Roberson decided to go to Arkansas.

With Brooks assuming head coach responsibilities, it’s likely he wouldn’t have as much time to coach Roberson in elite, and the 2028 LA Olympic Games are only two years away.

Roberson has yet to announce where she is transferring to, but Georgia is the biggest candidate, where her former club coach, Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, is the head coach.
