INDIANAPOLIS (July 23, 2026) – USA Gymnastics will honor the 1996 Olympic women’s and men’s artistic gymnastics teams 30 years after their performances in Atlanta as part of the 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, USAG announced Thursday. The teams will be honored Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9 at Mortgage Matchup Center, during the final days of men’s and women’s competition.

USAG made the announcement on the anniversary of the 1996 women’s gold-medal performance in Atlanta, where on July 23 the “Magnificent Seven” of Amanda Borden (captain), Amy Chow, Dominique Dawes, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Jaycie Phelps and Kerri Strug made history as the first U.S. women’s artistic team to win Olympic gold. Strug’s heroic exploits on vault sealed the title for a team filled with Hall of Famers and Olympic legends. Miller also won balance beam gold in Atlanta, while Chow won silver on uneven bars and Dawes earned bronze on floor exercise. The team was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1998, and all seven have been inducted into the Hall as individuals for their respective careers.

The men’s team of Mihai Bagiu, Jair Lynch (captain), John Macready, John Roethlisberger, Kip Simons, Chainey Umphrey and Blaine Wilson placed fifth in Atlanta, with Lynch taking silver on parallel bars to become the first Black U.S. athlete to win an Olympic medal in men’s artistic gymnastics. The men’s roster also featured some of the greatest American gymnasts in history: Lynch (2002), Roethlisberger (2005), Simons (2010), Umphrey (2005) and Wilson (2014) are all Hall of Fame inductees as individual athletes, with Roethlisberger and Wilson both three-time Olympians.
