Live Updates

3:36 p.m. – Projected lineups for U.S.

Based off what we’re seeing in training and recent scores/strengths, it can probably be assumed the U.S. will plan to put the following athletes up on each event (assuming they make it all three rounds). Note: No telling when they’ll put up who – this is just general event guesses.

Dive deeper into the format with our American Cup mixed team simulator.

  • Women:
    • UB: Bullock, Pease/Rivera (leaning Pease based on training)
      • This is the trickiest selection probably of all the U.S. routines. Pease really struggled with her dismount at Winter Cup and counted a fall after putting her hand down. Otherwise, she’s on par with Bullock and Rivera. Here, she’s looking much cleaner and has gotten that extra half turn back in her dismount. Also, if the U.S. is particular about each athlete doing two routines, they’ll probably put Pease here versus floor, where Rivera has a much higher ceiling between difficult and execution.
    • BB: Pease, Rivera
    • FX: Bullock, Rivera
  • Men:
    • FX: Hong, Moldauer
    • PB: Leykin, Moldauer
    • HB: Hong, Leykin

3:35 p.m. – Kochetkova (back handspring full) alert from Claire Pease (USA)

Claire Pease just showed a Kochetkova on beam – an upgrade she’ll look to add in tomorrow.

3:32 p.m. – Danila Leykin (USA) on high bar

Danila Leykin has really turned into a great high bar worker. Clean execution and great difficulty. He won high bar a couple weeks at Winter Cup and could be a crucial routine for the U.S. in its effort to win this first American Cup mixed team event tomorrow.

3:30 p.m. – Asher Hong (USA) on high bar

Asher Hong has taken a few swings on high bar. He has hit a couple Cassinas, but the piked Kovacs just gave him a bit of trouble. Catch was wonky and he kind of yanked off the bar and took a hard fall.

3:27 p.m. – Sophia Weisberg (BRA) on beam

Sophia Weisberg had an overall great turn on beam. Beautiful series, 180 in her leaps. Only problem was the dismount. She hesitated for a longggg moment before going for the double pike, and she didn’t have the rotations, landed on her knees. Was shaking it off after.

3:23 p.m. – How is this all working?

Well, as usual, the women seem to be a bit more focused on events while the men are bouncing around. For example, the U.S. women are currently focused on bars, but the U.S. men have been splitting time between parallel bars and high bar, along with the Brazilian men.

3:20 p.m. – Hezly Rivera (USA) on bars

Hezly Rivera looked good through her latest turn but seemed to miss the tap on her dismount and kind of just flung herself into the full-twisting double tuck… went very far and landed with her knees on the mat. Immediately got back up and seemed fine.

3:19 p.m. – Claire Pease (USA) on bars

Claire Pease looking composed on bars with some excellent handstands, as were Charleigh’s. Claire seemed to struggle with her bars dismount at Winter Cup. She only did a double front instead of the double front half, but double front half is once again looking strong here.

3:16 p.m. – Charleigh Bullock (USA) on bars

Charleigh Bullock seems like an obvious selection for the U.S. on bars. She shows off some inbars in training, as well as a great straddle Jaeger. Her dismount is the best of the three right now, stick full-twisting double tucks easier.

2:44 p.m. – American Cup podium training about to begin
